Following the 2007 acquisition of the National Bank for Development (NBD) that was founded in 1980, the Emirati consortium comprising of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) and the Emitaes International Investment Company acquired a of a sizable stake 52% in NBD, and increased the paid-up capital almost seven-fold from EGP 281 million to EGP 2 billion by the end of 2010.
After successfully completing a long-term restructuring plan that covered all aspects of the bank's business including Retail Banking, Wholesale Banking and Microfinance, restructuring also requested modernizing the IT system to provide state-of-the-art solutions to match the needs of Shari’a compliant banking. Therefore enabling the bank to provide innovative products and services for customers. Renovationg the branch network look and feel has substantially improved the customer experience and the Bank’s image and resulted in our newly renovated branches being rated on par with the best in the market.
2013 witnesses more momentous changes, most notably a new milestone in the bank's history with the name change to 'Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank - Egypt', the name that appeared on the screens of the Egyptian Stock Exchange for the first time on Wednesday April 3rd, 2013. This change from National Bank for Development represents far more than simply a change of name. It reflects the success of our five year restrucuting plan that encompassed huge investment in branches, products, services and infrastructure, as well as the training programmes to empower our staff to compete in the modern banking environment.
